Hi this is like the third time i'm trying to put up this post... hope it'll go thru this time.
haha some of the stuff i wanted to write is like kinda outta date by now... anyw here goes.

Yup some amazing stuff has happened since the last post really thank God for them :)
You know, while we knew the winning grp for the pavilion but i din expect them to announce the four other finalists. the 2 merit prizes (or 4th and 5th place) went to stephen's grp and one of the Mondrian grps (najeeb's). The Mondrian was kinda a surprise to me cos i thought smthg so boldly colored wd be outta context there but i guess their spaces worked. then it was the runnersup. No surprise... the kf's grp was in. You know the way it was announced was that she'll show the pic of the model then the grp who did it wd stand n pple wd applaud. I saw the title of one of the thumbnails "long box"... hmmm.... :) hope started to rise in my heart... thoughts started to run in my head... who else had a long boxy kind of design apart frm my grp? Could is be us? Us who regarded ourselves as the underdogs to the other power grp in studio... us who had no A students... us who had plain panels... us who cd not cad... us who were us tech bkward... us who spent so long figuring out the construction detailing... us who had only 6 pple... us who used too much wood?

But it was us. =) Indeed "... My Power is made perfect in weakness" 2 Cor 12:9. Yupsie... it really boggled my mind then n still somewhat does... so surreal. How cd we be one of the runners-up? It was really by God's grace =) Yeah... wow u know the feeling was real great. not to be ego but rather humbled that we cd reach so far by His grace =) It was like He's telling me "Nothing is impossible with God" Luke 1:37 so yeah the comments by the tutors was that they were captured by our challenge of the conventions of a pavilion ( experiential instead of the trad funtional) our concept was defamiliarisation. and that our detailing was like carpentry and beautiful (or smthg along those lines :) only issue was that "the drawings were not as passionately rendered" true indeed and I thank them for being so polite abt it instead of the flat "ugly" we wd prob have heard in yr 1 haha. so yeah... it was worth all that wood cutting (more then 10hrs done by 3 pple) , all that drawing, all that photoshopping, all that lack of sleep, all that gluing, all that frustration over the construction details for days. thanks a big bunch to yj n uncle for figuring that out despite the pain of it. Thank you God for the wisdom for the final system yj came up with, for answering my prayers :) thanks so much to mandy who redrew the axo though it was so painful and for the relentless photoshopping. thanks to sr n crys who cut the wood with me n the day we overnited n for sitting in that horrid heat to do the model esp the last nite. my sympathies seriously. it's real awful.

wow one of the amazing things is that jus some wks b4 mandy was saying like she hoped we got 2nd so at least we know we're not bad but we dun have to do the extra work the winning team wd have to... indeed we did how prophetic =) hehe yupsie was real happy. that day my studio went out for dinner at fish n co at wheelock. after dinner was to appleshop n borders aki dept haha occupational hazard. we went out again on mond ( which was last mond) to holland. not many pple went in the end it was all gals thingy cos paul-a left for vball jus b4 me n grace came. went to haagen daz haha was ultra fattening. i think i've put on lotsa wt the last wks. n i thot aki was supposed to lose wt. yeah rite. btw i like my onz studio yeah =)

last wk i was down with a painFLU haha punny for u... no thks to marina steamboating with my CG the previous sat. by sund i had a sorethroat n it morphed into flu during the wk. haha gotta say that the food was good though. thank God for protecting as frm going as a studio then if not sick b4 submission wd have been horrid.

fri was the last day of sch... finally. thank God :) went shopping with lw after class. haha so excited by the vibrant offering out there. yupsie like all the stuff now is so feminine or cutesy or bling haha the last one is good. then on sat went again with my mum... was a good trip haha esp the country rd sale *big grinz* n tangerine =)

now it's bk to serious work. what a worcation haha got tons of readings n presentations n essays n tests to deal with. hmm then on wed it is construction day. we're allocated to build the box frames of the winning pavilion. haha actually i think it'll be kinda fun... 1326 in action? haha but hopefully no mozzie bites man that place is quite naturale haha n no injuries. n no delays.

so yeah... as u can see archi life is pretty quirky n fun... to make up for the yucky parts i guess. like ccab :) but the best part of ccab was the pple or more specifically a person C:
well... in God's time yeah.

oh btw another interesting nugget. My grp's pavilion was called De Pavilion (due a sad lack of originality haha) n 2 other grps had the same name (aw it's like wearing the same gown as someone else to prom) but guess what? ALL 3 WERE AMONGST THE 5 FINALISTS! hahaha it was so hilrarious when we realised that on thurs. so yeah... the conclusion is... it's a winning name hahaha

Hi... I'm suffering from archi lag or zy suggested pet lag *pun intended*
Submission was over on mond... yay thank God i survived another one :) so now it's the aftermath of it - major disorientation. For the last wk and esp the last one I've taken the last bus almost every nite and now it's like i can go home in the afternoon... For the last month i've seen my aki pple for 7 days a wk, in the morn, in the afternoon, at nite and at times in the wee hrs of the morn but now it's like i dun see them so often... it was like after other lessons, I rush back to studio but now can go home or go out... ahh i shd be thankful for it I know but it's kinda harder to revert back to normal mode. Haha those of u who aint in aki reading this must think i'm crazy but u wont understd the degree of isolation, the immensity of our wkload and the messed up lifestyle we have. All for the passion of aki. haha. ok u know what this is the first time I cd sleep the nite b4 submission and eat a meal b4 submission so I really thank God for that! :) last time it wd be no sleep no food all the way, jus draw, jus make model, and wilt in the aircon less, ventilationless studio. haha time we aligned ourselves to the fan on the other side of the studio. argh the dds pple have adjustable aircons, the far side of the open studio has fans n windows, we have zilch. but still upgraded from the windowless airconless yr 1 studio. haha occassionally we go to the dds or move to the fan part.

I must say this project has been real fun in some way n interesting. it's the 1st time we're doing deisgn in grps - ok other than the 1 wk long vert studio. plus the winning design will actually be built - so we have real practical concerns now. buildibility. haha we reckoned we wont win cos we have too much wood - too ex. u know 3 of us spent 10 hrs cutting the strips of wood n didnt finish... it was a crazy amt of wood. But i really thank God for seeing us thru this. there were times there was tension haha esp when the uncles went into their mood swings. the guys in my grp r all uncles - though they loathe to admit it. man it was so funny at times but sometimes u jus get real disgusted. u dunno whether to cringe to cry or to laugh. And it was also further edu in Chi lang. the uncles or rather The Uncle kept affecting the M'sian Chi accent n sometimes the China Chi accent n it was even funnier when the China uncle started doing the M'sian accent. haha i think it's their way of relieving stress. anyhow i think the whole project was real good. haha looking bk when it first started n I wasnt too happy abt the grp n the direction of the project, i must say that I'm happy with the end pdt (the design I mean) haha our panels was a diff story (hey I really appreciate mandy's hard work poor girl she didnt sleep for 2 nites but I guess our drawings were not that zai but what to do the power pple were all in the other grp) at least i think our design is more poetic than theirs :) hehe

anyhow one of the best thing outta this proj is that my new studio has bonded pretty well tog... not jus my design grp but both the grps in my studio :) so I'm really happy abt that... finally in a fun n onz studio again. yay :) we went to holland the fri b4 last wk to eat nice food b4 the siong part began. haha apparently we're having another nice dinner smtime soon again n maybe a studio picnic. the sad thing is that the aki pple r the most of my social life now - which otherwise exists only during hols n the in between times when there is a tiny break :) but somehow we survive. at least got sense of belonging unlike arts where u just drift ard. Hai... one thing i wish though is that more AC pple to be in aki... hmm i wonder next yr which of the guys in my JC yr will be there?

Oh yeah, the winning design for this pavilion proj cum competition thing is robin's grp's i think... or so they say. yup it's simple yet elegant n more imptantly to the sch - cheap. haha i shd think so la. we have to actually build it ourselves. i wonder how it'll be like. hopefully it wont kill our mid sem break. not bad huh can build smthg in sch already. the best part is we have a breather these 2 weeks b4 sem break. very nan2 de2. so must cherish before we have to book in again haha. hey at least in army can book out... we r stuck here 7 days a wk. go home to bathe, sleep for a few hrs then it's bk to the studio again. but it's a cosy fac... u know almost everyone by now.
