hi wow the past 3 weeks was one of the craziest and painfulest (if ever there was such a word) ever (but then again in aki u jus go frm peaks to peaks of pain it's jus that they vary in the kind of pain haha) but then again God was faithful as usual, seeing me thru it all :) praise U Lord :)
the first week was the mid-sem break ( or rather a nicer sounding name for a worcation aka working vacation) For some weird uncomprehensible reason the break ends on a thurs so we hav sch on fri. all rite be thankful when u think of the yr they din have one at all. So the original plan was for my studio n 2 others to come on wed to build the L frames of the winning pavilion.
BUT on wed when we came at 10 the contractor was late so we went to help shift panels and models from our studio to the 3rd flr studio. Then in the midst of that, the sms came that we are to go home & come tmr again cos the wood for the L frames din arrive. so we were pretty peeved abt it. Then we came the next day again... then the wood came BUT the notches for the metal plates were not cut. So instead of spending our time assembling the frames, we wasted so much time figuring how to cut the notches. And not to mention lugging the horribly heavy pieces of wood to and fro from workshop to the site. But the one good thing was we learnt stuff from the construction workers! so funny they laughed at our incompetence and blurness. they are really good lor... they chiselled out like 4 notches in the time 3 to 4 of us take to do one (and a very ugly one as compared to their machine-cut lookalike ones) and their cool 'nail' to make a perfect 50mm mark on the wood without us having to measure it all out :) haha
Actually we all admire these construction workers (ha all u onlookers dun know how hard it is untill u enter their world to see) All that chiselling and hammering and carrying of wood - my arms was so so awfully painful... far worse than after my first time bench pressing. Oh yea after the YST construction site visit... when we had to wear that heavy helmet with the sun blazing down on us, i realised that the construction workers really have a tough life. Yup so we ought to appreciate their work yeah. Anyhow to cut the long story short, the whole construction was a awfully dragged out affair. Orginally meant to build over the wkend, it became a tues to thurs affair but the final reality was a tues to following wed affair. How inefficient. All thks to the contractor who kept delaying the wood supplies and not supplying what they were supposed to. Oh well, our 1st encounter with the real world of construction and architecture.
Anyhow, so the pavilion construction dragged thru sem break into the next wk. And the next wk was excruciating. Orginally on tues I had 2 essays due and 2 presentations, thks to my brilliant planning. Thank God both the essay were extended or not i wont have survived. Plus there was a BU test on wed (which was a BUmmer) cos i didnt study that much thks to PAinVILION construction and of cos physics has been usually a painful affair. But many thanks to my fellow aki mates who taught me BU stuff. Yup was real helpful n nice of u guys n gals :) Plus I still had a cough frm the flu so it was all quite bad with all these things added up tog. In the end my teacher told me to have the presentation on fri when i'm better so on tues only the grp presentaion which was totally amazing. I was coughing real badly jus b4 it but when i came I was ok... i did cough a lil but managed to still talk without probs... thank you so much God :) the lil miracles in our lives :)
And of cos, in the midst of all these, P2 design started. A clubhouse at kent ridge park. on mond we went there during studio. was kinda hilarious cos KR park is so near n yet so far frm sch. the gals sat in crys' car but the guys n my tutor had to walk a bustop down to KR terminal, take 200 (which incidentally u may have to wait awhile for) then walk a slope up to KR park (which incidentally is full of steep slopes as well) so yea they were pretty bitchy when they arrived :)
even better still it drizzled and they had to go back to sch later the same way they came. when we were on the car we decided to go to holland v for dinner and called the guys... the poor guys said "no we cant go. have to go bk to sch to build the pavilion" aww so poor thing... kinda guilty while we gals went to subway for dinner :) Btw there was also 2722 in the midst of all things... but thank God once again... cos i was the editor... din have to do anythg for that wk's presentation =)
Then it was the next wk (which is this week) I had to produce something for studio on mond, 2 papers due on tues, a test on wed. I thought i wont survive it but amazingly i even had time to go for CG(which i have neglected for weeks or rather since sch started) and did the 2 essays n stuff for studio. the test was rather painful though cos I also had 2722 on wed. this time 2722 was serious cos wed was the final draft deadline. mond nite was spent reading absurd modernist essays n stories (cos the tues test was a "exploring modernism" usp mod that tested u on readings. I was like reading this one that had no paras n made no sense, falling asleep every 2 lines and by the time i finished i had no idea what it was abt. actually i thought i was in bad shape but when i reached sch everyone was panicking too... we started the test half hour late so we had time to study. haha but well i think the paintings questions were ok but some of the readings ones were like huh? try my best, and trust God for the rest. After the test, it was 2722 time and site model time. Thank God I have pple to share my site model with *big grinz* poor yj came to studio ard 7plus 8 and discovered that his site was just a lil away from the area we were making n kept bitching abt how we left him out, this studio has no love blah blah blah haha it was so funny la. anyhow, grp site model is a real fast thing. on tues mandy n paul-a printed out the plan, paul-a cut the layers of corrugated cardboard and I plotted out the contours. On wed, me n mandy cut the contours and pasted them tog. much faster than if i was doing it myself. and cheaper too :) haha
On thurs we had studio n as usual it ended at 7plus long after the stipulated 6pm. oh well what's new. haha ok but thank God for a great tutor :) yup. then after that, actually me, lw, qb and ernest planned to do the BU lab rpt tog but after a sad dinner at technoedge (yes the cheesy name of the engine canteen) it went downhill frm there. first thks to qb's irresponsibility *tsktsk* we were locked out of his dds. thank God later pple came bk so we cd enter. then ernest started disturbing *ahem* on msn n things got rather outta hand :) and qb and me cd onky think of a few reasons for the modes of failure of beams (yea that's what the lab rpt is abt that why BU is painful haha but hopefully by God's grace i can do decently well in it) Anyone care to teach me? haha. so it was an ultra unproductive nite. so we went home. and of cos no one does design on studio days. it's called recovery from aki lag time.
Anyhow i know this sounds weird but i feel free now... as in cos all the tests and essays are over ( next essay in 2 wks time :) so I can fully concentrate on design yay! :) ( of cos there's 2722 but it's not as bad as i thought it was & I have a real good 9-man team thank God once again :) haha that day we were doing all these tests on i-am-bored.com haha so crappy. we all have very high visual abilities. sadly my interpersonal one is only40% but i agree actually. I'm socially awkward but i think i've improved over the years :) thank God. I think some pple think I'm dao ( i loook dao esp when i dun smile) and cos i'm quiet when i dun know u well it makes it worse. oh well... I'm not dao jus dunno how to say what i want to say (i'm i'm making efforts to improve k with God's help :)
ok it's real late now... i gtg. good nite & God bless :)
